Fort Collins Scoliosis Treatment

scoliosis

Scoliosis typically begins as a minor curve in the spine, which can progress significantly over a person’s lifetime. A doctor will diagnose the scoliosis by measuring the degree at which the spine curves. When diagnosed early on and treated with chiropractic care, patients can prevent their scoliosis from becoming a debilitating condition. Without proper treatment though, serious health problems can occur including sciatica, painful menstruation, diminished heart and lung capacity, and physical disability. At Advanced Healthcare, we offer Fort Collins scoliosis treatment through our non-invasive and holistic chiropractic care.

What Causes Scoliosis?

A healthy spine is completely vertical. When a patient has scoliosis, his/her spine has a bend or curve. The cause of this curvature is often hard to diagnose, but it is frequently the result of a misalignment in the spine, postural issues, a degenerative disease, or a traumatic accident. Many patients with scoliosis experienced rapid growth spurts in their youth, which resulted in the curvature, while some older patients develop it because of a preexisting condition, such as osteoporosis.

What are the Consequences of Scoliosis?

Most often, patients discover a curve in their spine because a parent or friend notices that their shoulders and hips are no longer level. At this point, a doctor will perform a physical examination, both visual and manual, to determine the degree of the curvature. He/she will then conduct an Adams Position Test, to see how far the patient can bend forward, which will indicate an underlying issue. Once a curve has been discovered, the doctor will use an X-ray to evaluate the extent of the scoliosis.

Chiropractic Treatment of Scoliosis

A Fort Collins chiropractor can complete the physical examination and determine the presence of scoliosis. He/she will then perform an assessment of your medical history to figure out any causes for the scoliosis and create a treatment plan catered to your unique needs.  Chiropractic care is a gentle and conservative Fort Collins scoliosis treatment which can prevent, slow, and even stop the progression of scoliosis.
